Police searching for missing Indian student Souvik Pal find body in Bridgewater Canal

Police searching for missing Indian student Souvik Pal have found a body in water in Old Trafford. Specialist officers made the discovery in the Bridgewater Canal at around 2pm today.
Formal identification is not due to take place until after the body has been safely recovered.
A spokesman for GMP said that Souvik’s family has been informed of the development and specially trained officers are in regular contact with them.
DCI Colin Larkin continued to appeal for anyone with information relating to his disappearance to contact police.
Souvik – a product design student at Manchester Metropolitan University – was 18 when he went missing and has not been seen since being thrown out of a New Year’s Eve party at Manchester nightspot the Warehouse Project, Trafford Park at around 11pm on December 31.

His father Santanu Pal had flown to Manchester to find his son – meeting MPs and handing out leaflets before a Manchester United match at Old Trafford to try to find him.
Souvik’s friends were also involved in the search, gathering outside Manchester town hall with posters of their missing friend last week.
