Disabled People Against Cuts hold day of action to minimise Maximus

There were protests outside 31 Maximus offices and assessment centres across Britain on Monday of

this week, as it began testing sick and disabled claimants of ESA benefit.

The “work capability assessments” were carried out by Atos until last year when it pulled out after widespread protests.

Protesters in face paint chanted “same circus, different clowns” outside Maximus’ head office in

central London.

Paula Peters of Disabled People Against Cuts said, “We’ll drive you out like we drove out Atos—your days are numbered.”

She mocked Maximus’ boasts that it would be able to carry out the tests without protests. The crowd cheered as she explained that its share price was plummeting over its handling of similar contracts in London.

Joe McPhillips from north London told Socialist Worker, “Benefit cuts have driven thousands of disabled people to suicide, and I was nearly one of them.

“The way they treat you robs you of your dignity.”
